Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania has presented his credentials to the President of Mejlis of Turkmenistan and exchanged the instruments of ratification of the Agreement between Lithuania and Turkmenistan for the Avoidance of Double Taxation
Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Lastauskas is visiting Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) on 10 to 11 December 2014.
On 10 December 2014, Ambassador has presented his letters of credence to the President of Mejlis of Turkmenistan Akja Nurberdiyewa.
In the meeting with the Minister of Finance of Turkmenistan Muhammetguly Mukhammedov, preparation for the work of Lithuanian – Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation has been discussed. The first meeting of the Commission should be held in 2015 in Lithuania.
During the meeting in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Ambassador and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov have signed a Protocol On Exchange of Instruments of Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Government of Turkmenistan for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income and on Capital, signed at Ashgabat on 18 June 2013. This Agreement, ensuring avoidance of double taxation of income and capital, has entered into force on the day of the exchange of the instruments of ratification, i.e. 10 December 2014. It will facilitate conditions for bilateral trade, encourage mutual exchanges of goods and services between Lithuania and Turkmenistan and guarantee legal assurance for Lithuanian and Turkmen investors concerning taxation of their income. The Agreement will also help to prevent fiscal violations and tax evasion.
On 11 December 2014, meetings with the heads of the Ministry of Trade and External Economic Relations, the Ministry of Oil and Gas Industry and Mineral Resources and the Chamber of Trade and Industry of Turkmenistan are scheduled.
In the meetings, perspectives of bilateral cooperation of Lithuania and Turkmenistan are discussed, in particular in the domains of energy, communication and transport, as well as ties between the EU and Turkmenistan, cooperation within the framework of international organisations.
