On 22 August, the Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Azerbaijan Kęstutis Vaškelevičius handed over copies of the letters of credence to Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Fariz Rzayev. The status of bilateral relations, as well as the security situation in the region were discussed in the meeting. The Ambassador stressed that during his term of office he will strive to strengthen the partnership between the two countries, as well as the political, economic, cultural and other ties between Lithuania and Azerbaijan.
"I am pleased that this meeting confirmed our mutual desire to see the relationship between the two freedom-loving peoples grow ever stronger. It is symbolic that this meeting took place on the eve of the commemoration of the Baltic Way. Azerbaijanis living in Lithuania stood with us on the Baltic Way, and the support for this unique Baltic freedom event was also felt in Azerbaijan. Mutual support for each other's freedom aspirations is a solid basis for strengthening our countries' friendship," said Ambassador Vaškelevičius after the meeting.
